Picture Post Historical Archive, 1938-1957
The Picture Post used photojournalism to capture British life in an age before television. The magazine charts the rise of popular entertainment and youth culture and contains thousands of photos of ordinary people doing ordinary things in Britain. Photo journalists also covered major national and international social and political issues; and with its liberal, anti-fascist and populist editorial stance, you can find images from WWII and the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany, coverage of the Korean War, and post-war reconstruction in Britain.
